Good economical solution for small areas
This is a very simple sprinkler. You control it by increase or decrease water pressure by how wide you open the spigot of water to which the hose is attached. How much of the area is covered depends on how strong your water pressure is at its max. The biggest area I can get is about 10 feet square. And, of course, anything less is obtained by just by turning down the water flow.

This sprinkler works well for spot watering. I have two small areas in the front lawn that I need to water, so I move the sprinkler a few times to get the entire area covered.

Since it has no moving parts this is going to outlast all my other rotation and oscillating sprinklers that I use in the back yard. The only down side of this sprinkler that it is very light, so if the hose does not want to lay flat (which is often the case) this sprinkler will not stay flat, it cannot fight what the hose wants to do. Too light weight. Not really rectangular pattern since water spray out at different pressure. It won't stay flat because of the light weight.
Just right for my small rectangular vegetable garden
This is the perfect shape for my smallish, rectangular vegetable garden. No controls or moving parts so this should last just about forever. Just adjust water flow/pressure to make the coverage area larger or smaller.

To those reviewers who said it was too light to stay in place I have a simple solution. Take a wire coat hanger and cut the straight portion to about six inches in length; this can usually be done with a pair of pliers. 1" or 1 1/2" from one end use the pliers to bend the wire to a 90 degree angle making a handle of sorts. Use the "handle" to push the wire through the little hole (opposite of where the hose connects to the sprinkler) and down into the ground thereby stabilizing the sprinkler. When you're finished watering simply pull up on the "handle" removing the wire and you're sprinkler is ready to be used in another location. Hope this helps those who thought it was too light to stay on the ground.

Rotary sprinkler
Decent sprinkler, kind of cheap feeling but for the price that is to be ecpected. It leaked pretty bad when I first got it so I had to use some teflon tape to help it seal. also the product came extremely dusty. The sprinkle pattern is pretty weak too.

Super Sprinkler
I had been looking for something to water my trees with and this is it. I got 3 of them and put a Y on 2 of them and hooked garden hoses between and strung them where I needed it and hooked the hose to a timer on the water outlet and off it goes. My trees look great even with the temps being way over 100 everyday. Yes there are more expensive items out there to water with but when something works as well as this items does why bother with something more costly, this works so save your money for something else (like a book, while this waters you enjoy reading LOL) I got 3 of them and feel they are the best for what I needed I hope if you get them you will feel the same Have a great day!

You Can Do It
My wife ran over this sprinkler head with the lawn mower and shattered it completely. I first thought to call the repair company as this seemed like a complicated job.But somebody told me it was a simple screw it off screw it on job.You know like changing a light bulb. So I started to look for a replacement part. I tried Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, no luck. Then I saw it on Amazon. The only thing to know about this is there are two ways to install this sprinkler head. The most common way is the screw on screw off way. The other way, my situation, is to plug the bottom port and use an elbow fitting that friction fits to a plastic hose. Either way you can do it yourself! Just dig up the broken one install it,and twist the spray head in the right direction and you are done. This is a very long sprinkler so you have have to dig down pretty deep but I just used a hand trowel and my hands. Simply the best
This is the best little sprinkler I have ever used. I bought one locally a couple of years ago, and decided to get another this year, but couldn't find one locally.
Naturally, I found one on Amazon.com.

This is a heavy cast iron sprinkler that stays where you put it and stays flat on the ground, unlike most other small sprinklers. It projects a very nice, even pattern. I've owned just about every type of moving or stationary sprinkler there is, and this is the best.

great sprinkler for high or low pressure
I have very low pressure gravity flow water, and most sprinklers just don't perform for me like they should. Happily, this simple, old-fashioned hose end sprinkler performs beautifully on very low pressure. (We tried the square spray pattern version too, but sadly, it was not satisfactory for our situation and I had to give it away.) The cast iron construction is heavy enough to stay put, and can withstand a horse walking on it and other abuse that would demolish most sprinklers. I have 3 of these now, and will probably buy a few more just so I can always find one!

You Could Probably Find Better.
Some time ago I needed a couple sprinklers, one for the front yard and one for the back. I bought two of these Nelson Metal whirling sprinklers. Frankly, I haven't been very satisfied with this product. They seemed to work rather well at first. Then a little bit of corrosion of the metal parts set in. The whirling thingy became reluctant to whirl. I tried a number of cures, including a dose of WD-40. It helped. However, in order to properly whirl, the water now has to be fully on otherwise it just won't work. Next, I noticed that the sprinkler leaks badly around the hose junction and around the base of the whirler. Let's face it, these sprinklers are just little pieces of junk. I still use mine, but I feel somewhat annoyed every time. If you're looking for a sprinkler, you could probably find a better one.

I like the pattern of the water with this sprinkler. Also, it covers a lot of area tossing water up and out. It looks cool with the water pattern spinning into the air especially with the sun shinning on it. Very effective visually as well as functionally. Get it!

Simple tech is the best
I love this little sprinkler. With our community's 60 pound water pressure it covers a decent sized area. It throws pretty large drops so the water falls back onto the lawn instead of blowing or evaporating away. And it doesn't take long to saturate an area.

I did notice that since it has such a low profile, longer blades of grass next to it can get caught in the flow and interfere with the spray pattern. I just pluck them out of the way before I turn on the sprinkler. I'm not sure the pattern is all that sharp of a square, but it is square-ish, and that's good enough in our yard.

I think it's a great sprinkler for kids to play in. It has no moving parts to break and no sharp edges to step on. And the flow can be adjusted downward until it's a gentle bubbler. It is cast iron and weighs a pound or two, so it could be painful if one of the kids decides to swing it around on the end of the hose like a mace. Other than that it should be great for play on a hot summer...

Good, Durable Sprinkler
This sprinkler earns high marks for being built to last. I have gone through many sprinklers that ultimately fail due to cheap construction, failure of moving parts, or water deposits. This sprinkler has no moving parts whatever; I expect it to work as well in fifty years as it does today. Here are some observations based on my experience:

* Durability - This unit is made from cast iron. It is therefore heavy and stays where planted. It tends to want to remain flat on the ground and is more resistant to tilting due to hose twist or stiff grass than lighter plastic sprinklers. The finish is yellow and has lasted well so far. Being iron, I reckon rust may be an issue to its innards if left wet for a while, but you would really have to let it soak for that to affect functionality.

* Pattern - The square hole on top of the sprinkler does a reasonably good job of creating a square watering pattern. I have noticed with mine, however, that it sprinkles...
12' x 12' for me
I was hoping for the advertised 30 foot square sprinkler pattern (900 sq. ft.), yet was not necessarily counting on quite that large of an area, but maybe a 25 foot square. I am on a municipal water system and have never had pressure issues. But, I did not realize how pathetic my water pressure must be until I connected this sprinkler. It delivers only a 12 foot square pattern (144 sq. ft.) at my house. What I am receiving from this sprinkler is approximately 16% of the advertised watering area.

This sprinkler is a stout little thing. Sprinklers do not get much, if any, simpler than this and its round Nelson sibling. As with so many other items, this sprinkler is made in China. It's hard to screw up a simple piece of cast iron, and this appears to be a pretty decent casting.

The sprinkling pattern is even, and as other say, the droplet size and gentleness is just about perfect.

Works well, time will tell...
I replaced two of my plastic sprinkler heads with the Orbit Sprinkler 360 Brass head. Installation was easy enough, no surprises. I like the water flow out of them better than the plastic. The water flow adjustment is very sensitive. Turning just a little makes a big change, but doesn't bug me to much. Hoping this will outlast my plastic heads and survive attacks by the lawn care people. I'll try one of the 90 or 180 degrees someday soon and update as to any issues with changing the direction, but I couldn't imagine any major issues. I will be sure to update if these fail suddenly or some other weird thing happens.

Very good product
This Gilmour rotary sprinkler has impressed me very favorably. It has a fairly long range with moderate water pressure, does not waste water by misting, appears sturdy and well made, and basically gets the job done. I've bought a number of lawn sprinklers that proved unsatisfactory for one reason or another, but so far this gem is not one of them. Recommended.

Great for high wind areas
The other sprinklers made the water like aerosol and did not work as well in low pressure times. These work great for us. We have one on every hose.

Got the job done for a low price
I used this sprinkler to water the small back yard of a townhouse.

One problem was that the water did not evenly cover the entire area, there would be dry spots after a while of the water running. I solved this by turning down the water pressure after several minutes so that the water covered a different smaller area. This was easy and allowed me to water the whole area.

The sprinkler does not take up much space and is easy to attach to the hose.

I use along walks and driveways to irrigate small areas-much better water distribution than fixed pop-ups. Half circle heads work perfectly. Home Depot sells them for $7.49

Spinning Rainbird
It is such a cool nozzle. I love this Rainbird spinning nozzle for certain parts of the garden that have 6"+ risers. 8 minutes seems to give plenty of water for both the garden as well as the surrounding grass that it sprays. Kids love to run through this sprinkler. It does conserve on water also.

The problem with this particular nozzle is, you do not want to sink it into the ground under the grass as the pop-up will not clear the grass. If it is sprayed from a riser, though, it covers a nice size area. Overlap a few in strategic spots in your garden for maximum benefit.
Buy Full Circle Head only
Design lends for full circle heads workung better then half or quarter heads. I would only buy full circle head.

Excellent - all metal construction, even distribution, back for more!
I purchased three different sprinklers in the hope of finding a good one...all from this manufacturer. For the price I was a little skeptical but all were well made - all metal construction - but this was by far the best of the lot. The distribution pattern mimics rain - very even and good coverage throughout without excessive soaking in one area and dry patches in others. Droplets rather than mist so less evaporation - important in Florida - but the droplets are very fine so not prone to harm even tender young seedlings. Another nice feature is the ability to daisy chain several together. I'm back to buy a few more - great price, excellent product. I'll try to update later to discuss durability but at least initially - very pleased.

UPDATE 07/2012 - I've now owned these for four years and they are going strong. HOWEVER, it has been brought to my attention that the company has chanced the product and may not be using all metal grommets/other which impacts quality...

This is a great sprinkler for the price. I haven't used it for its maximum range (35'x35'), but for areas of 20'-25' and smaller, I can say that it works great. It holds the square pattern quite well and spreads the water perfectly for lawn and turf. Well-built construction is also a plus.
Great ad, but lasts about 2 months
Bought three of these, they do work very well but the aluminum shaft that holds the propeller wears out in about 6 - 8 weeks and it's pretty much useless after that .. not a good buy ..

Finally, found non-plastic heads
I have been looking for a solution to an ongoing issue with my dogs and chewing off plastic shrub heads. Gotta love turning on the sprinkler system and seeing a couple geysers in your yard. Yeah, these are expensive initially, but for all the money and trouble I have gone through replacing the cheap plastic ones, they are well worth it. Plus, they are solid brass, sturdy and will last a lifetime.

Good economical solution for small areas
This is a very simple sprinkler. You control it by increase or decrease water pressure by how wide you open the spigot of water to which the hose is attached. How much of the area is covered depends on how strong your water pressure is at its max. The biggest area I can get is about 10 feet square. And, of course, anything less is obtained by just by turning down the water flow.

This sprinkler works well for spot watering. I have two small areas in the front lawn that I need to water, so I move the sprinkler a few times to get the entire area covered.

Since it has no moving parts this is going to outlast all my other rotation and oscillating sprinklers that I use in the back yard. The only down side of this sprinkler that it is very light, so if the hose does not want to lay flat (which is often the case) this sprinkler will not stay flat, it cannot fight what the hose wants to do. This is a great little sprinkler! It has a fine spray pattern that is gentle on plants. I have used it through a whole season and it has held up well. Also, it is a nice small footprint.

Rain Curtain Nozzle Technology

Adjusting Arc

To set up the 32SA sprinkler's rotation (arc), turn on the water and rotate the shaft by hand to the right until it stops, and then to the left until it stops. That is your fixed left edge. Then turn the entire rotor until it is lined up with where you want the sprinkling pattern to start on that left edge. The rotor is preset at the factory to rotate 180 degrees from that left starting point. To change the arc from its preset rotation, make final adjustments with the top screw using a screwdriver, increasing or decreasing as desired.

Adjustable Spray Distance

The rotor comes with a 3.0 GPM nozzle rated to a throw distance of up to 32 feet at common residential water pressure (45 PSI). You can reduce throw distance up to 35 percent by turning the screw located above the nozzle using a flat blade screwdriver.

Short Life Span
I have 27 32SA sprinkler heads. Two years ago I repalced 25 of them. Last year I had to replace 22 of the 27. This year another 23 have stopped rotating. There is something wrong with the 32SA series. Maybe Rainbird wants people to replace them over and over again.

It is not my sprinkler system. I have a super fine system mesh filter so it is not debris. Not only was system off for winter, but I live in FL and it did not freeze here last year. My 12 42SA's have been running for over 5 years without a problem. The same goes for my 43 1800 spray heads. In 7 years, the only 1800 I had to replace was 1 that failed to retract and the lawn mover killed it.

32SA's piece of garbage. I have light bulbs that last longer. Stay away from the 32SA series.

Breaks easily
I will not purchase these again. Of the dozen or so I have used, and replaced over the last 4 years, I find the average life 3-6 months. Some will break the first time you clean the filter screen. Problem is screwing them in place without breaking the rotating center gear. Will still pop up, but not rotate. Weak and easially broken.
Rain Bird #32SA
This single nozzle Sprinkler functions better than the multi-nozzle sprinkler it replaced. But had to reduce the nozzle sizes to obtain more pressure in my excessive 10-sprinkler zone for these to work properly, as they require a bit more pressure to pop up than my previous Rain Birds. Apparently they have stronger springs. I get full coverage now that I changed to these Rain Bird 32Sa's.
