By turning the dial to the appropriate zone, you can easily set your system to water full sun areas more and shaded areas less, or water slopes and clay soils in short intervals to allow water to soak in--an important step in avoiding runoff. You can also vary the timing and frequency of pop-up sprays vs. rotor zones and customize the drip zones when watering trees and landscapes.
Advanced Controls
The SST-600o offers one-touch seasonal adjustments, allowing you to increase watering in hot, dry months and reduce it in rainy periods. The timer is also compatible with an optional rain sensor, which automatically shuts off the timer when it's raining. And maintenance is easy thanks to the built-in troubleshooting feature. If the timer detects a short, it suspends watering to that zone and displays a warning message. The timer even protects against surges from nearby lightning strikes and power surges. If power is interrupted, the timer stores the settings indefinitely without the need for a backup battery.
Simple Installation

Good timer, limited programming optionsFor its price this is a really nice timer. Unfortunately its programming capabilities are very limited, and in order to make it work for me, I needed to fool the system a bit.
The problem is this: you can only program one single start time for a given zone and then make it run once, twice, three times or four times. As such not so bad were it not that you cannot adjust the interval between the additional times. Therefore this timer is not very suitable for the tropics (we have sun up at 7:00 am and down at 7:00 pm). Typically you would want to water early morning and late afternoon. That's not possible with this timer, because the interval for a 2 times a day schedule is 6 hours only (i.e. 7:00 am and 1:00 pm). Interval for 3 times a day is 4 hours (i.e. 07:00 am, 11:00 am and 3:00 pm) and interval for 4 times a day is 3 hours (07:00 am, 10:00 am, 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm). As you see, not a desired schedule. I decided then to water 3 times at night, but that's not possible, because...
Station Timer a WinnerI bought this unit to replace an existing controller than was becomming unreliable and was hard to set up after each local power failure or bump.
This unit had all the features that I wanted. Each valve's settings could be made (by selecting the appropriate buttons) and displayed on the digital display at the same time.
The hardest part of the installation was the removal of the old unit and mounting the new one. The issue was that the mounting holes in the wall were different for each unit. But once new mount holes were made and the new unit installed, the set-up for each valve was made in less than 5 minutes total.
It has worked flawlessly since installation. It has definitely exceeded my expectations. I would strongly recommend this unit to anyone with a similar need!

When my rainbird timer failed- I went to store and sales guy told me to buy a different brand because Rain bird has slipped in customer service. I have used then for decades and did not beleive him . I saw it on line direct from rain-bird.
Call their toll free number waited 15 minutes(!!) placed order got it OCt 3. Rain bird had a special starting October - called them (three times) they aid they would not honor the Oct sale price and to install it and return then re-buy it .
I could not believe that they would even say that to a repeat customer. - Sales guy is correct - they have slipped in customer service. First - I would not buy another Rainbird product again - Second if you do buy it a amazon - as they have the decency to stand behind the sale and do the right thing.
