On Second Thought, DON'T BUY this one
I reviewed this item back at the beginning of the summer. Here's what I said then:
I was trying to replace an old Craftsman Sled Base sprinkler which had finally broken down. The Gilmour is similar in design. The Gilmour is less precise in the spray settings and the red tabs used to set the radius of the spray move roughly and are fairly flimsy. Every time I change the setting, I expect them to crack off (which they haven't.) Also, this sprinkler's sled base is somewhat small with no option to fold out extra side panels for stability.
Therefore, it tends to be less stable, doesn't always sit firmly and occasionally topples over. All this being said, the Gilmour is the best replacement I could find for the old sprinkler. The price was reasonable.
NOW it's September and the sprinkler is just about done. Half the time the head doesn't move back and forth and water is constantly gushing out of the bottom. So it's going into the garbage. Don't buy this sprinkler.
Not as good as the older ones
This sprinkler is not near as good as the one I purchased 3 or 4 years ago.
The spray doesn't adjust as much and it leaks out of the bottom. Won't be buying another one.

Impact sprinklers
My water pressure isn't the greatest and most metal impact sprinklers have too much mass to operate efficiently. The lighter mass of this plastic sprinkler makes the lower pressure a moot point. Although it is plastic because there is no real "impact" in operation the plastic doesn't make any difference with respect to strength.

Works better than a lot of metal ones
I was really impressed by this sprinkler head! It works better than a lot of metal ones and at a fraction of the cost. Quick, thorough and long distance coverage!
Rain Bird Head
The old on wore out after 20 years so I ordered this one from Amazon as a replacement. I am very happy with the purchase. It runs quiet, has easy adjustments, and gives good coverage. Excellent product. Would buy this one again.

Excellent
THis rain bird shrub sprnkler lives up to the company claims. The "rain curtain" nozzle definately provides more even coverage than other sprinklers.This is the third set of rotary sprinklers I've used in 3 years because I have found it difficult to get rotary sprinklers to rotate without getting stuck.The Rain Bird sprinklers rotate reliably, shoot farther and cover more evenly.

Rain Curtain Nozzle Technology

Among the 42SA+'s rotor advances is its Rain Curtain nozzle design, which produces larger water droplets that fall exactly where you want them, resisting windblown overspray. The nozzle's "micro ramps" also direct a portion of the spray close to the head, eliminating the dry brown spots common with other brands. The nozzle's superior coverage uniformity helps you reduce watering time on your rotor zone, saving money on water bills.

Adjusting Arc

To set up the 42SA+ sprinkler's rotation (arc), turn on the water and rotate the shaft by hand to the right until it stops, and then to the left until it stops. That is your fixed left edge. Then turn the entire rotor until it is lined up with where you want the sprinkling pattern to start on that left edge. The rotor is preset at the factory to rotate 180 degrees from that left starting point. To change the arc from its preset rotation, make final adjustments with the top screw using a screwdriver, increasing or decreasing as desired.

Adjustable Spray Distance

The rotor comes with a 3.0 GPM nozzle rated to a throw distance of up to 38 feet at common residential water pressure (45 PSI). You can reduce the throw distance up to 25 percent by turning the screw located above the nozzle using a flat blade screwdriver. Other features include a protected closed-case design that makes the sprinkler ideal for "creeping" grasses, sandy soil, and other harsh surroundings; a reversing full and part circle rotation from 40 to 360 degrees; additional O-rings and seals for extra protection in "gritty" water; and a self-adjusting stator that doesn't require replacement when changing nozzles.

This bundle comes with four individual 42SA+ rotors.

Much better than my old impact sprinklers
I'm replacing my old Rain Bird Maxi-Paw impulse sprinkler heads as they fail with these heads. I prefer them over the 32SA Rain Bird heads which have the 1/2" inlet (which is the same as the Maxi-Paw). I just install a 3/4" x 1/2" bushing to convert the inlet, then use a cut-off riser or 2 of the fixed rigid risers, available in practically any hardware store, and that makes it an easy replacement.

I've found this sprinkler to be easy to adjust (just read the instructions, especially if you're installing where it it's not turning in a full circle). The "rain curtain" seems to give me good coverage when adjusted for the same distance as my old Maxi-Paws.

The best part: Even with buying the PVC fittings, the replacement cost is HALF that of a Maxi-Paw, and I have a quiet system with less maintenance. It's nice that there's no impact noise, but it's fantastic that I no longer have to clean out the mud that gets into the Maxi-Paw case, or have a huge dry area and one...

Lawn sprinklers
Items work great so far. Puts out plenty of water and covers a good distance with pressure from a lake pump. It soaked me very well when I didn't get out of the way fast enough.

Spinning Rainbird
It is such a cool nozzle. I love this Rainbird spinning nozzle for certain parts of the garden that have 6"+ risers. 8 minutes seems to give plenty of water for both the garden as well as the surrounding grass that it sprays. Kids love to run through this sprinkler. It does conserve on water also.

The problem with this particular nozzle is, you do not want to sink it into the ground under the grass as the pop-up will not clear the grass. If it is sprayed from a riser, though, it covers a nice size area. Overlap a few in strategic spots in your garden for maximum benefit.
Buy Full Circle Head only
Design lends for full circle heads workung better then half or quarter heads. I would only buy full circle head.

Simply the best I have ever used
This sprinkler is simply the best I have ever used. I live in Los Angeles and have an underground system in the back yard, but have used various hose attached sprinkers in the front yard for 23 years. The front yard is the normal geometric grab bag with curb strip, sloping pyramid cut where the walkway to the porch divide the main lawn, etc.
I thoroughly dislike impulse sprinklers because of no control. I also hate wasting water on the sidewalk. When I would find a well designed sprinkler I would buy several because I learned that the design could be discontinued. This was my first online effort and I purchased several promising designs. But after my first use of this one I sent the others back and purchased four more of these. The adjustable stream screw (the first I've ever seen) just continues to amaze me. Watering the 3ft X 35ft curb strip is (for the first time) easy and not wasteful. The Polymer model is cheaper and if you have other metal bases you might want to consider...

Great for the right purpose
I bought several of these to setup in patterns for yard lawns controlled by timers. I like the ability to control the pattern and get water evenly distributed in range from device. It probaly won't last more than a couple of years. But for me, it is the best I can do without underground sprinkler.
Best we've found
We live on a steep hill with poor water pressure. This sprinkler does the job and does it well. Easily ajusted, wide spread or narrow and the water shoots out further than any sprinkler we've used in the past. I think I got the last available one from Amazon so sure hope they offer more. It is the best!

Works great... for the first six months
About a year ago I bought and installed four of these and I was thrilled with the even coverage (and the almost hypnotic stream motion). However, after about half a year, within a month of each other, the locking rings on two of the sprinklers developed splits causing water to gush out. After replacing them, a third sprinkler stopped rotating. I discovered that it will begin rotating again if I increase the spray radius from 15 feet to about 18 feet. For me, this causes a lot of water to go where I don't want it. So I give this three stars because it works beautifully when brand new, but seems to degrade rather quickly.

Underwhelming range and poor coverage
I bought these because they are supposed to provide better coverage and reduce overall watering time per zone by using a more intelligent pattern. Unfortunately these heads are a major disappointment.

My water pressure is sitting right at 75 lbs of pressure; plenty to run my single stream and popup spray heads without an issue. I started with one zone and replaced all the single stream heads with these. Each head comes with a set of spray angle disks that make it very easy to pick a spray pattern.

The first major issue is that even on the maximum setting, the range of the stream is no better than 15 feet, and certainly no where near the maximum advertised range of 30'.

The second issue is that the heads have very poor coverage close to the heads. The streams are such that each individual stream has a varying throw (some short range, some long) but the pattern overall left many gaps in coverage near the heads.

I will be pulling these...
Great Sprinkler
I've had several of these Toro 340 multistream sprinklers for years and I just ordered a couple more to replace bad single stream rotors in the same lawn area. These sprinklers have lasted longer than the single stream models and I like their precipitation rate better than the single stream models that seem to flood my lawn with too much water. I've had no problems with these rotors over the years and they keep on going even after being abused by string trimmers and lawn mowers. Plus, you need no tools to adjust them.
