Good for Brown Thumbs
I bought this because I got tired of killing plants by forgetting to water.
Intial set up was fairly simple - attached solar-powered pump unit to a post and dropped the intake end into the rain barrel.
Running the tubing was interesting, it made me look at my porch and how I placed my plants. I quickly got frustrated with the stiff tubing and t-connectors. Went to Lowes for better quality tubing and connectors. Had a lot of fun running tubing and placing plants after that.
After a month my plants are thriving and I'm thinking about a second unit for my back porch and wondering how imaginative I can get with this system. Can it be used in a bird bath or a small water feature?
This may not be the right unit for a Master Gardener - but for a Brown Thumb like myself it's a great way to learn and has made having plants fun again. As long as the unit holds up all year, I'll be very pleased with it.

Great product idea. Poor implemetation
I'd been trying to find a reliable watering system for my small patio garden for some time. I had even thought about making my own system using an aquarium pump and timer, but the problem is I have no outside power source or water spigot. Solar options were either too expensive, or not efficient enough, and I really didnt want to leave an extension cord running thru the sliding door. That's when I stumbled across this item, which seemed like a decent solution.
Hardly. First off all the description clearly states the ability to use this on hanging plants. Even the advertised picture shows a hanging plant placed well above the solar unit itself (it's on the front of the box) However one of the first items on the included install instructions state that the highest dripper can be no higher than the top of the solar unit. Seriously? That's just blatant false advertising, be prepared to mount this higher than everything else.
The unit itself is just a small plastic...

I love using this product .I have been using one for the last two months at my summer home on Lake Huron in northern Michigan. I am not always there to water my hanging pots. I only get there on the weekends so I just make sure my rain barrel is full when I leave and the Solar Rain Maker does the rest so I don't have to worry. I come back to beautiful flowering hanging plants. What a GREAT product. I wish this had come on the market years ago - great piece of mind and my hanging geraniums looks absolutely wonderful.
