Easy to use, reliable, and precise
I have two of these, and have used them one season. The programming is extremely easy to use and gives you enough options -- much simpler than the some of the other digital ones. The easy programming is a big plus if you are establishing a lawn and need to start with a lot of watering and then reduce it over time. The batteries are very easy to change ... and you should plan to run through a set of 3 AA batteries about every six weeks if you have the valves working daily. There is a low-battery indicator to let you know when they need to be changed. Overall, ease-of-use is a huge plus on this item. Like another reviewer noted ... you do have to replace the cover each time after changing the programming, which takes about 5 seconds.
You can set the start time so that if you are using multiple units they do not run at the same time. I've had good luck with reliability this season, better than the Melnor digital units, which I've basically retired due to the valves not...

Great easy to use timer!
I bought one of these after seeding my yard. The timer was easy to set and modify compared to some fully digital ones, not all, just some. I've had no problems my first two summers with this. I usually have it set and the water on the entire summer with no leaks. You can manually water with it too. I saw a review that said otherwise, but you just need to set it to "once" and "on".
I do store it in the house in the winter with the water drained and the batteries out of it, so maybe that's why I've have better results than others. I also haven't even replaced the batteries yet since I take them out in the winter. I just wish they had a dual outlet version of this design.
*Follow up - For the start of the 3rd season, the shut off diaphragm failed, allowing the timer to leak. I gave Orbit a call, and they said it had a 6 year warranty and sent me a new one. No hassle other than not having a timer for a week. Very nice customer service! The batteries still work too.
Had problems but EXCELLENT customer service, but sadly product is junk.
I have had two of these watering times, in one unit the timer simply stopped functioning and the batteries had to be removed for it to start opening on it's schedule again. Every few days it would simply stop. I replaced that unit and got another one which began leaking through the valve after a few months.
That said when I contacted orbit with my complaints they took amazing care of me and offered to send two new timers, no questions asked. They simply stated they stood behind their products I would definitely give them another chance, maybe with a different product or an updated version of this product. Service like this is hard to find now days.

Well the two replacements are both dead. One had a valve which started leaking and the second shows a low battery indicator regardless of how new the batteries are (and therefore doesn't work). Unfortunately these timers are simply junk.
